Multiple Functions in One

Bidirectional Display Inc. is a Massachusetts-based fabless design house developing an Image Sensor Panel (ISP) that integrates multiple functions into a single piece of glass or plastic. The ISP can be placed directly on a backlight module or glued on top of a display module for easy integration with existing TFT-LCD and AMOLED displays. Sensor pixels of the ISP are separated with each other to leave transparent regions on the ISP. When integrated with a display module, the sensor pixels are aligned with the black matrix and hidden between display pixels. Therefore, the display quality of the underlying display module is substantially unaffected.

Our ISP provides at least the following functionalities:

• 2D Image Scanner – no moving part, super thin, super fast, and super portable.
• Image Capturing (no need to focus) – reads documents, credit cards (e-commerce), business card (customer relation management), QR code with address information (destination entry), real size planar object, etc.
• Biometrics Sensing – Put finger on screen and read fingerprint (and other biometrics)
• Pulse Oximeter – Put finger on screen, shine light on finger and read pulse rate.
• Touch & Gesture Control – Optical touch and gesture control, optical-capacitive touch control (including 3D touch)
• Thermometer – Put screen on forehead and measure body temperature by dual-band (visible + infrared) sensor pixels
